A little bit of background about us...
IzzoSew (i-zoh-so) Studio is run by Izzy and Tim and was born in 2021 out of a love of sewing, an appreciation of the sewing community, and a desire to empower more people to make sustainable clothing choices.
Over the years, Izzy's teaching has sharpened into something specific: helping sewists understand why a garment fits the way it does, not just how to follow a pattern. So many of us learn to sew in circles, making the same adjustments over and over without ever knowing the reasoning behind them. Izzy's teaching is built to change that, giving people the system behind the fit so they can sew a wardrobe that's so nearly right, right.
She first learnt to sew from her mother at an early age, whilst living in the foothills of the Himalayas, where her own clothes were made by local tailors. Bespoke fit wasn't a luxury there; it was simply the norm, and growing up that way shaped how she thinks about fit to this day. Those formative years taught her the magic of creating garments to wear, and the value of the craft as more than a pastime, something with real mental and practical benefits, taught with the same calm, reassuring encouragement she's known for now.
Izzy's background as a chartered landscape architect gave her a solid grounding in composition, balance, line, and contour, skills she now brings directly into pattern drafting and body block work. She later retrained formally as a pattern drafter, and still approaches it as a lifelong student: always learning, always refining, always curious about the next technique that might make a fit just that bit better. Design and fabric run deep in her past too: one great grandparent owned a mill in Yorkshire, another sold fabric to travelling merchants worldwide. Tim shares that design background as an architect, with a handy textiles A-Level besides.
Our aim is to create a space where creativity, mindfulness, and learning can thrive, and to give sewists at every stage the system to understand their own fit, so they can sew a beautifully fitted wardrobe that reflects who they are on the inside, out.
